Microchipping

A Simple Way to Help Bring Pets Home

No one wants to imagine their pet becoming lost, but even the most careful pet owners can experience the unexpected. Microchipping provides a safe, permanent form of identification that can significantly improve the chances of being reunited with your pet if they ever wander away from home. At Sun City Animal Hospital, we encourage microchipping as an important part of your pet’s overall preventive care plan.

Unlike collars and ID tags, which can break, slip off, or become unreadable over time, a microchip remains with your pet for life. The microchip itself is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted just beneath the skin, typically between the shoulder blades. The procedure is quick, requires no surgery, and can often be completed during a routine appointment.

How Does Microchipping Work?

Each microchip contains a unique identification number linked to your contact information in a secure registration database. If your pet is found and brought to a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, or rescue organization, a special scanner can detect the chip and access the identification number. Once your registration information is verified, you can be contacted and reunited with your pet.

Why Microchip Your Pet?

Microchipping offers peace of mind and lasting protection for pets and their families. Benefits include:

  • Permanent identification that won’t fall off or wear out
  • Improved chances of recovering a lost pet
  • Quick and simple implantation during a regular visit
  • Suitable for both dogs and cats
  • An added layer of security alongside collars and ID tags

Keeping Your Information Current

A microchip is only effective if the registration information is up to date. If you move, change phone numbers, or update your email address, it’s important to update your pet’s microchip registration as well. Our team is happy to answer questions about registration and help ensure your pet’s information remains accurate.

While we hope you’ll never need it, microchipping can provide reassurance that if your pet ever becomes separated from you, they have a better chance of finding their way back home where they belong.
